TCAA charter PAJN - Gilberts Bay - PAJN - TCA2050 - 01-21-2013
I was enjoying a stay at the Alaska Beach House B&B (http://www.alaskabeachhousebnb.com) in Juneau, planning on getting a bit deeper into the wilderness.
The coffee smelled strong that morning... just the way I like it.
Ed and his son Steven, also staying at the B&B, were in desperate need of a transport to Gilberts Bay... And since no one was around to provide transport that day I agreed to take my Piper Pacer for this trip.
They didn't bring along too much gear so I figured there would be no problem there.
Weather was tricky but the kind we AK bush-flyers love :-)
So we decided to stay low and slow and enjoy the scenery along the way...
Total BTB time: 1 h 22 min

A long time ago, during the 50's, a small group of flying veterans of WWII tried to start a small aviation company, operating a Grumman Goose, a Consolidated Catalina, a C-47 and a Piper Cub. They settled at Gilbert Bay, AK, with the hope of a new Gold Rush or anything else, and the desires to keep flying their beloved airplanes. Unfortunately, nothing came.
The small airfield became deserted, and they moved to the sunny coast of Bahamas, where they found prosperity. Today, a new spirit of adventure leads Misty Moorings aviation services to start operating flights in this remote area of Alaska. As they planned new flights and adventures, they found this old airfield it was ideal for a new base, close to their forthcoming area of flights. All buildings were repaired and some new were build. In fact, all is fictitious, but , why not ?

Nice report & pictures, Stefaan! The Ole Pacer put a few pilots off the runway and tore up a wing tip.
