Hi racing fans.

Thanks to Bert van Halteren for the heads up on the F-1 Season start. Indeed this season will see some very long flights and especially the first flight to Bahrain is a very long flight and this is the only flight where the B744 is recommended as only available aircraft. We don’t have many aircraft in the hangars, which are capable to make these flights with the given PAX-count without a fuel-stop.

Talking indirectly of fuel burn and available range, this might be of some interest for those flying the B744 from PMDG. There is a way to ‘increase’ the range to match the original values. Obviously the new values have been verified on a flight using the actual given circumstances of a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Los Angeles. The correct weight was set and the weather was adjusted to the original weather of the flight several times and this brought to light that the fuel burn on the PMDG model is too high. Setting it to 0.99 (fuel_flow_scalar=0.99) instead leaving it at 1.07 gives a much more realistic fuel burn. If somebody is interested in the original report here is the link (in German):
http://www.fsmagazin.de/fralax/Flightpla...htplan.htm

But now back to the F-1 Season. In the documentation of the flights I will make a recommendation of possible aircrafts. Do not take these as 'you have to use these', because as I said these are only recommendations. Of course you can use any aircraft in our inventory that is capable of making these flights with the given values (mainly PAX counts). Don't worry about aircraft able to take the passengers, but aren't as fast as the aircraft on which the flight plans are based on. These are all Charter flights and no passenger will have a connection flight just a few minutes after the scheduled arrival (mainly on the flight back, but not meaning Curacao), but if he/she might have such a flight, that will be solely their own problem/risk. :biggrin:
There will be recommendations for the following aircrafts: B744, B763 and MD-11.
And you will go to the following airports: KEWR, KIAD, KSEA, KTPA, KMCI, KSAN, TJSJ, KMIA, KCVG, TBPB, KSFO, SVMI, KLAS, OBBI, PHNL, YMML, WMKK, ZSPD, LEMD, LFMN, LTFJ, CYUL, LEVC, EGKK, EDSB, EBLG, LIRF, LHBP, WSSS, PANC, RJNA, RKSI, SBGR, FYWH, OMAA and BIKF. Of course each and every Charter flight has its origin at Curacao. Some of the flights will last for about two weeks as the races are merged together to enable you to make all the flights in sequence (if you like to do so).

If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask them.

Now I wish you all some pleasant flights. Enjoy them and have fun.

This was the last MP-Session before we will take the break for the Iditarod and Easter Season. I don't know whether it was a sign, but Pär and I ran into some problems regarding taking pictures. I was not able to take pictures of the beginning, neither was Pär. Later in the flight it was possible again. Ok, that might not be quite correct, as i was able to take pictures, but only in windowed mode and not in full screen as I used to since quite some time...

Later on everything was back to 'normal', for whatever reason. :confused:

Ok, here is a picture which I was able to take. Pär and I are flying a very nice formation now. I think I was displayed on his system as a cruise ship. We will hopefully see the evidence.:biggrin:
[attachment=1364]
[attachment=1365]
[attachment=1366]

The next picture also shows Vic flying in his J-41 also not too far away.
[attachment=1367]

This looks like our first touch and go: Puerto Bolivar (SKPB).
[attachment=1368]

All in all we had very nice weather for flying, although someone might like the sky without clouds, but here they appear like the salt in the soup.
[attachment=1369]

Closing in to Stefaan in his Cessna 441 (displayed as a 402).
[attachment=1370]

Stefaan watch out for the terrain!
[attachment=1371]

The route seemed well planned by Pär. A little bit more to the left and the clouds would be out of granite.
[attachment=1375]

Arrival to Cartagena. Stefaan is flying the left downwind to RWY 01 as did Vic and I flew the right downwind approach and ended up behind Vic - very close.
[attachment=1372]
[attachment=1373]
[attachment=1374]

After a successful landing we all joined on the ramp. Pär is missing as his computer problems led him to a reboot of his system(s) and he didn't make it in time to join us on the ramp.
[attachment=1376]

Ok, as I already said earlier we will take a break now for the Iditarod and will be back into the air and continuing from Cartagena on April 10 with MP010:biggrin:

I hope to see you all after the break in really fresh shape. :thumbup:

Hi crew.

Yes, we had a MP-Session yesterday and it was a good one as we again had a lot of fun...

This MP-Session could be easily divided into two separately reports. One for the flight from Mayaguez to Bonaire and the second one from Bonaire to Aruba. So this will be the report of the flight from Mayaguez to Bonaire which was flown with Cessna 750 'Citation X' aircrafts.

But first we met at TJMZ to get ready for the flight. Stefaan (in the background) used FS9 and the AFCAD file for the airport, so he was on the apron.
[attachment=1327]

Vic was flying in FSX and he assured us that he was on the apron as well - only his nose gear might be on 'soft ground'. :confused:
[attachment=1328]

We are now almost ready to depart and so did I as the first one.
[attachment=1329]

After takeoff I climbed out on runway heading before I turned left to circle back over the airport to join the route. If you look real closely you can see Stefaan as he passes the numbers (27) on his initial climb. Vic has already lined up (09).
[attachment=1330]
[attachment=1331]

Now Vic finally got airborne as well and is climbing out.
[attachment=1332]

Leaving Puerto Rico behind us and heading for Curaçao, which we only will overfly.
[attachment=1333]

It was a nice enjoyable flight over the Caribbean Sea again cruising at FL450.
[attachment=1334]

Curaçao ahead already in the descend for an approach to RWY 10 at Bonaire.
[attachment=1335]

There is the airport of Curaçao which we all should know very well :biggrin: and soon we will turn towards Flamingo Airport.
[attachment=1336]

Leaving Curaçao behind further descending.
[attachment=1337]
[attachment=1338]
[attachment=1339]

Now we have Flamingo Airport visible and unfortunately I had another AFCAD2 file for the airport active which had a higher priority as the one from IWI, so the runway was misplaced as was the whole airport, except for the scenery objects. That is also the reason why I didn't take any pictures on the ground of Flamingo Airport.
But here is the approach in sequence...
[attachment=1340]
[attachment=1341]

After spending a good deal of the night at the Board of Trade Saloon, we agreed to leave Nome around 09.00 local time.

So after a good breakfast and under cold but clear skies, off we went for the first leg of this trip back to Merrill Field.
Leaving Nome, climbing to 7500 ft.
[attachment=1310]

Enroute we were overflying some more Iditarod checkpoints as Elim (ELI)...
[attachment=1311]

Koyuk...
[attachment=1312]

and then off to Mc Grath for a potty break :biggrin:
Downwind leg to RWY 34 at PAMC.
[attachment=1313]

and final approach after about 1 hour and 50 minutes of flying.
[attachment=1314]

This was rather a short stop since we were expected at Rainy Pass Lodge for lunch, so quickly off again from RWY 34 since we were all getting hungry...
[attachment=1315]

Enroute we passed the Rohn checkpoint, well known for it's very unique cabin.
[attachment=1316]

Upon clearing the mountains, we descended in the valley on the lookout for Rainy Pass.
[attachment=1317]

The Kodiak flies great under FSX, and it's a joy to manually climb and descent to/from cruise as wel as guiding her through the valleys.
Trims nicely, a very rewarding aircraft.

A bit further in the valley, visibility dropped, but we were able to find the Lodge and the accompanying strip.
[attachment=1318]

[attachment=1319]

Looks like a rather short strip...
[attachment=1320]

but we managed to stop the Kodiak around halfway ... a credit to her STOL capabilities
[attachment=1321]

We were enjoying some 1/4-pound Mooseburgers for lunch along with some booze, off course... no booze for me... yet...
After lunch the passengers took the time to enjoy the scenery and take some pictures before we left for our final destination, and the end of the 2-day trip, Merrill Field.
[attachment=1322]

[attachment=1323]

So the final leg was a direct to Merril Field cruising at 7500 ft again.
Leaving Rainy Pass (6AK), surely knowing I'd return later when I had a chance to spend the night so I could fully enjoy some of their Booze with the Mooseburgers...
[attachment=1324]

Closing in on Merrill, more cloud cover came along and even some precipitation here and there.
Luckily we made it back before it got any worse and after about 38 minutes of flight we were on final approach to RWY 07
[attachment=1325]

So all the passengers made it safely back to our TCAA terminal at Merrill Field.
And I..... I was rewarded with a good tip ...

After all supply flights for this years Iditarod race are finished, I'm on standby at Merrill Field AK (PAMR), near Anchorage for touring flights.
Friday, a group of 8 tourists went to the TCAA terminal at Merrill Field and chartered the Quest Kodiak for the Extreme Tour-1, me being the lucky pilot to fly them around.
This is a 2-day adventure where we treat our passengers to an over fly of the North route of the Iditarod Trail, while landing at a few checkpoints.

So yesterday we went on for day one of this tour.
I arrived at Merrill Field pretty early to prepare the Kodiak and it was cold but with good visibility.
Once the tourists arrived, we left Merrill Field at first light for our first destination, Finger Lake where we would have breakfast at the lodge.

Enroute to Finger lake, enjoying the beautifull sunrise behind us while cruising at 6500 ft.
[attachment=1288]

[attachment=1289]

About 38 minutes later we arrived at Finger lake.
Not all of the lake frozen yet, but I managed to find a nice spot to settle the Kodiak down on a nearby shore... good thing since we went for the wheel version...
[attachment=1290]

We all enjoyed a good breakfast at the Winter Lake Lodge, and I couldn't resist having a taste of the hot chili simmering on the stove... a real treat!
Now off we went for the next leg taking us to Mc Grath (PAMC) while overflying Nikolai (PAFS).
The sun was already well up while climbing out of Finger Lake towards our cruising altitude of 8500 ft for this leg
[attachment=1291]

[attachment=1292]

When arriving at the plains near Farewell Lake (PAFW) enroute to Nikolai, lower clouds started to form, so we descended to fly the last part of this leg at 4500 ft.
[attachment=1293]

And after about 45 minutes of flying we arrived at Mc Grath where the passengers got the tour of our TCAA operations center.
[attachment=1294]

Time also for a quick bathroom stop and off we went on the leg to Kaltag (KAL) while overflying Takotna (TCT), Ophir (Z17), Cripple, Ruby (PARY), Galena (PAGA) and Nulato (PANU).
Climbing out of Mc Grath to an altitude of 4500 ft...
[attachment=1295]

and very soon we were overflying Takotna...
[attachment=1296]

Ruby...
[attachment=1297]

and later on final approach into Kaltag after about 1 hour and 15 minutes of flying...
[attachment=1298]

[attachment=1299]

This was merely a bathroom stop, so very soon we were off for the final leg towards our destination of day-1 being Nome (PAOM).
Along the way during this leg we would overfly Unalakleet (PAUN) and Shaktoolik (PFSH).
Climbing out of Kaltag to an altitude of 4500 ft.
[attachment=1300]

Overflying Unalakleet... we had a few online flights here during last years Iditarod...
[attachment=1301]

[attachment=1302]

And passing Shaktoolik...
[attachment=1303]

To finally arrive at Nome, with a good view at the airport and town.
[attachment=1304]

Due to the wind conditions, I made a turn over the water and went for a Final approach to RWY 03...
[attachment=1305]

And in no time we were enjoying some hot coffee in the TCAA building at the airport.
[attachment=1306]

That concludes day one of this 2-day trip.
We are staying at the Nome Nugget Inn and will have dinner at Fast Freddie's Restaurant.
After dinner a visit to the Board of Trade Saloon, built in 1900, is on our schedule. :drinks:

We arrived on Friday (February 12) at Tunis and unfortunately we already had to leave on Saturday, which gave us only one night to explore the city. Well, these are the disadvantages if you fly cargo into very different places in the world and you have to make progress - not much time for staying at one place :cray:

Our flight from Tunis to Harare was scheduled to leave the parking position at 09:35Z and so we arrived at the airport at around 08:00Z. We received the weather briefing and it shows great weather along our route with only small thunderstorms. After walk around it was time to set up the panel and FMC accordingly.
[attachment=1268]

Once more a small look over the city of Tunis to our left and then it was time to close the L1 door.
[attachment=1269]
[attachment=1270]

During start up a Tunisair A300-600 taxis past us to RWY 01.
[attachment=1271]
[attachment=1272]

After start up of all four Rolls Royce RB211-524HT engines we went off the blocks at 09:34Z and taxied to RWY 01 as well. It must have been a funny day for ATC as for runway 01 we would encounter a tailwind of 7 knots, which means RWY 19 would have been much better for departure. I think our load of fresh fish wouldn't mind at all and we neither.
Departure procedure would be GIBLI 2A with a V2 of 178 knots at a flaps-10 setting and TO1 thrust setting. Takeoff roll:
[attachment=1273]

After following the runway heading to Raouad (TS NDB) we had to turn left and as we pass the TUC 329 radial we should be at a minimum altitude of 3000 feet with not more than 210 KIAS. Next restriction would be not to overshoot the 285 radial from TUC during the inbound turn to TUC back over the airport and departing to GIBLI Intersection.
here next you can enjoy the view over Tunis Airport and in the follow up the city.
[attachment=1274]
[attachment=1275]

Nice climb out to FL330, which was our initial cruise level using a Cost Index of 200 resulting in quite high speeds, but this helped to match our predicted flying times en-route.
[attachment=1276]

Whilst already at FL330 we passed Jerba a well known place by European tourists...
[attachment=1277]

The whole flight at all was really uneventful with clear skies most of the time with only one exception after passing Lubumbashi...
[attachment=1279]
[attachment=1280]
...where we had this little thunderstorm.

The sun had started to let down, but we were already close to Harare and ATC had cleared us for an ILS approach to RWY 05. As we were approaching almost from the North we could not enter the ILS immediately and therefore ATC cleared us for an approach starting at VSB VOR which we should depart via 224 radial until 12 DME and then turn inbound. Well, if you have a look at the charts for the approach you will discover that this will result in a very tight turn. But we were aware of this and configured the B744F to flaps-20 before the turn to 052 for intercepting the localizer. We only overshot it very slightly and soon we were established on the ILS.
But first we had to approach the airport...
[attachment=1281]
[attachment=1282]

Passing the Outer Marker:
[attachment=1283]

This is how the approach looks from the outside:
[attachment=1284]

With autobrakes set to 2 roll out was smooth and we left the runway at L taxiing via P past the terminal and tower to the parking position.
[attachment=1285]
[attachment=1286]

Upon start up at Tunis we had 97 tons of fuel on board and after shut down we had 19.3 tons remaining. Flying time was 7:04 and block to block time was 7:17. Takeoff was at 9:40 and touchdown at 16:44. We went on the blocks at 16:51. So we stayed completely inside our flightplan. You can have a look at it... It is attached to this post as well.

I hope now you realize what you miss if you don't fly the Cargo Dispatch :biggrin: :runandhide:

Next flight goes to Accra and there is also a good scenery available now for FS9.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoyed this flight report and don't hesitate and send us yours...:clapping:

Well, this Straw-16 flight had nothing to do with straw itself. It was all about carrying two moose half's to Kaltag, all in all about 700 pounds of meat and bones.
I planned to depart at around 23:00Z at almost the time our MDSA would also depart for Unalakleet (PAUN).

Ok, it was time to get ready.
[attachment=1195]

And short time later we were starting the engines to warm them up before we would depart.
[attachment=1196]

Then the B721 received IFR clearance and it taxied to RWY 07 for departure. We hovered near the aircraft and watched the departure until we headed to Kaltag.
[attachment=1197]
[attachment=1198]
[attachment=1199]
[attachment=1200]

Shortly after departure from Galena it started to snow and the visibility almost dropped to zero.
[attachment=1201]
[attachment=1202]

We had some problems finding Kaltag airfield, so we had to take a closer look at the GPS then. But then we finally found the airfield.
[attachment=1203]
[attachment=1204]
[attachment=1205]

We quickly unloaded the two moose half's and took off for Unalakleet. First we stayed low, but later the terrain rose and we decided to climb to 3000 feet and let the autopilot do it's job.
[attachment=1206]

Later on the weather improved and we could see Unalakleet from some distance.
[attachment=1207]
[attachment=1208]

Well, the MDSA was already parked on the apron (gravel base, but no problem for a B727) as we approached across RWY 26.
[attachment=1209]

Back on the ground and next to our MDSA. Now shut down, grab our belongings and head over to Brown's Lodge to get a nice and warm place to spend the next few nights. :sleeping:
[attachment=1210]
[attachment=1211]

If anybody is interested in a file for Kaltag airfield just give me a call. I have done an ADE file for it based on a satellite image.

Ok, total flying time for both legs was 58 minutes (PAGA-KAL: 0:28 and KAL-PAUN: 0:30).

Now we can take the next assignments...

Hi guys.

After awakening, having a good shower and an even better breakfast we headed over to the MDSA (Mobile Dispatch & Support Aircraft), an old Boeing 727-100 in United Airlines colors from around 1971, which is parked at the end of the west apron. This aircraft is piloted by Sandy, who has many tasks during this year of the Iditarod. He maybe want to describe his tasks to you in a later reply to this flight report. :clapping:

Ok, he assigned Straw-15 to us, which means we have to deliver 15 bales of straw to Nulato (NUL) airfield. Nulato would be about 15 minutes away with our Bell 412 in almost runway heading of RWY 25 at Galena. We planned for a 11 o'clock departure (20:00 Zulu), but during this time the US Air Force had some activity going on over the airport and so we delayed the flight for about 45 minutes. At least 2 F-16D's from Eielson AFB were practicing some touch and goes and approaches.
Here one of the F-16's (Callsign Moose 11) during what supposed to be was a low approach.
[attachment=1136]
[attachment=1137]
[attachment=1138]

As Moose 11 was turning to the left after approach, Moose 12 turned to the right. At least we had very good weather conditions so we were able to see the F-16's maneuver over Galena.
[attachment=1139]
[attachment=1140]
[attachment=1141]

Then at 11:44 local time we prepared for departure.
[attachment=1142]

A quick look to the right to the MDSA on the apron next to us, but in some distance though.
[attachment=1143]

We are ready to go.
[attachment=1144]

We left Galena behind and headed to Nulato. Of course we could make an IFR flight of this flight, but we opted for a more straight flight path - ah, and of course IFR stands for 'I Follow River' this time.:biggrin::roflblack1:
[attachment=1145]

After 13 minutes after departure we already have a good visual on Nulato airfield although we are still 4 NM out.
[attachment=1146]

Now we are almost on final to the landing spot which will be on the apron of course.
[attachment=1147]

Here we are with a little tailwind, but we opted for this type of landing to keep the tail rotor clear, as everybody would have been behind us then. We needed 16 minutes to get from Galena to Nulato.
[attachment=1148]

After about 18 minutes on the ground we headed back to Galena still in very good weather. I have to admit that the weather this year is almost perfect for flying if we don't pay too much attention on the flights from McGrath to Takotna and Ophir:stongue:
[attachment=1149]
There we are again. Offset approach to Galena RWY 07 as we are still tracking the VOR 068 Radial.

Over the apron already. Sandy asked me to bring the Bell down onto the apron right - sorry - left next to the MDSA. It was my pleasure ( what else should I say now?:biggrin:) to comply to his 'order'.
The return flight lasted 15 minutes giving us a total flying time of 31 minutes for this flight. And as there are no further assignments for me it also seems that we can do a post flight inspection on the Bell.
I have attached the traffic file and the also needed files for the B721 to show up in your sim as well as long you use FS9 - although it might work in FSX as well, but I don't know.

As Moose 11 was turning to the left after approach, Moose 12 turned to the right. At least we had very good weather conditions so we were able to see the F-16's maneuver over Galena.

Then at 11:44 local time we prepared for departure.

A quick look to the right to the MDSA on the apron next to us, but in some distance though.

We are ready to go.
[attachment=1144]

We left Galena behind and headed to Nulato. Of course we could make an IFR flight of this flight, but we opted for a more straight flight path - ah, and of course IFR stands for 'I Follow River' this time.:biggrin::roflblack1:
[attachment=1145]

After 13 minutes after departure we already have a good visual on Nulato airfield although we are still 4 NM out.
[attachment=1146]

Now we are almost on final to the landing spot which will be on the apron of course.
[attachment=1147]

Here we are with a little tailwind, but we opted for this type of landing to keep the tail rotor clear, as everybody would have been behind us then. We needed 16 minutes to get from Galena to Nulato.

After about 18 minutes on the ground we headed back to Galena still in very good weather. I have to admit that the weather this year is almost perfect for flying if we don't pay too much attention on the flights from McGrath to Takotna and Ophir:stongue:
