TL0210-10 DTTA-FVHA - CBreuer - 02-13-2010

We arrived on Friday (February 12) at Tunis and unfortunately we already had to leave on Saturday, which gave us only one night to explore the city. Well, these are the disadvantages if you fly cargo into very different places in the world and you have to make progress - not much time for staying at one place Cray

Our flight from Tunis to Harare was scheduled to leave the parking position at 09:35Z and so we arrived at the airport at around 08:00Z. We received the weather briefing and it shows great weather along our route with only small thunderstorms. After walk around it was time to set up the panel and FMC accordingly.

Once more a small look over the city of Tunis to our left and then it was time to close the L1 door.

During start up a Tunisair A300-600 taxis past us to RWY 01.

After start up of all four Rolls Royce RB211-524HT engines we went off the blocks at 09:34Z and taxied to RWY 01 as well. It must have been a funny day for ATC as for runway 01 we would encounter a tailwind of 7 knots, which means RWY 19 would have been much better for departure. I think our load of fresh fish wouldn't mind at all and we neither.
Departure procedure would be GIBLI 2A with a V2 of 178 knots at a flaps-10 setting and TO1 thrust setting. Takeoff roll:

After following the runway heading to Raouad (TS NDB) we had to turn left and as we pass the TUC 329 radial we should be at a minimum altitude of 3000 feet with not more than 210 KIAS. Next restriction would be not to overshoot the 285 radial from TUC during the inbound turn to TUC back over the airport and departing to GIBLI Intersection.
here next you can enjoy the view over Tunis Airport and in the follow up the city.

Nice climb out to FL330, which was our initial cruise level using a Cost Index of 200 resulting in quite high speeds, but this helped to match our predicted flying times en-route.

Whilst already at FL330 we passed Jerba a well known place by European tourists...

The whole flight at all was really uneventful with clear skies most of the time with only one exception after passing Lubumbashi...

...where we had this little thunderstorm.

The sun had started to let down, but we were already close to Harare and ATC had cleared us for an ILS approach to RWY 05. As we were approaching almost from the North we could not enter the ILS immediately and therefore ATC cleared us for an approach starting at VSB VOR which we should depart via 224 radial until 12 DME and then turn inbound. Well, if you have a look at the charts for the approach you will discover that this will result in a very tight turn. But we were aware of this and configured the B744F to flaps-20 before the turn to 052 for intercepting the localizer. We only overshot it very slightly and soon we were established on the ILS.
But first we had to approach the airport...

Passing the Outer Marker:

This is how the approach looks from the outside:

With autobrakes set to 2 roll out was smooth and we left the runway at L taxiing via P past the terminal and tower to the parking position.

Upon start up at Tunis we had 97 tons of fuel on board and after shut down we had 19.3 tons remaining. Flying time was 7:04 and block to block time was 7:17. Takeoff was at 9:40 and touchdown at 16:44. We went on the blocks at 16:51. So we stayed completely inside our flightplan. You can have a look at it... It is attached to this post as well.

I hope now you realize what you miss if you don't fly the Cargo Dispatch Biggrin Runandhide

Next flight goes to Accra and there is also a good scenery available now for FS9.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoyed this flight report and don't hesitate and send us yours...Clapping
