MP Leg 028-2 PANT-KBE - TCA2050 - 09-25-2010

Map of the second leg of session 28
This leg took us from Annette Island, over Stewart (CZST) to Bell Island Hot Springs (KBE)

Departing Annette Island, visibility degraded a lot

Soon we were over Ketchikan Harbor, you can see Christian over the cruise ships

Passing Loring (13Z), Christian low left, Par higher at the right

Again lower visibility when climbing to avoid the mountains

Steward CZST

...with Christian behind me

Descending over the river towards Bell Island Hot Springs, Christian ahead

Final stop of this Mega Session.
I crawled up some dry land while Christian and Par remained afloat

As always, it was a great session again.
See you guys back next week !

Hey Stefaan.

Very nice pictures and yes, you are right if you say it was a Mega Session. I will post my pictures later on.

RE: MP Leg 028-2 PANT-KBE - BigSwede - 09-26-2010

Just start Kodiaq ready to do the second part of this MP

PAKT - Ketchikan Intl. in sight and a O/H pic.

Time to climb and it were very cloes to not manage it with Kodiaq LOL

We have now decent to about 600ft to follow the river to our final destination

At KBE - Bell Island Hot Spring RWYSW/NE

Had to use reverse to parked at the ramp, if you look on my right you cane see Christian hiding in the wood ? He probably had to take a leak after this 3.5 hour flight

See U next week
Pär

RE: MP Leg 028-2 PANT-KBE - RedBaron - 09-26-2010

After a quick aircraft change it was time to depart for the second lag to KBE Bell Island Hot Spring.
I went for the Quest Kodiak as everyone of us did.

Here you can see Stefaan and me taxiing to RWY 12 in preparation for departure.

Almost ready to go - only waiting for Pär to show up...

After departure we headed for Ketchikan and I made a nice overhead of the nearby harbor and the airport as well.

Heading for the turn to the right. Behind the window frame you can barely see the callsign from Pär.

That is the point to turn around...

...and turning.

During the remainder of the flight I tried to stay between these cloud layers, which allowed to see the ground and was also high enough to barely clear the terrain...

Crossing a glacier near Steward.

On approach to Steward with Stefaan ahead of me a bit to the left and Pär further ahead just going overhead. I made a successful approach to 4Z7, which is a water runway and thereafter I tried to make a touch and go to Stewards RWY 36, but may have encountered wake turbulence from Stefaan, so it was only a low approach...

We had to continue on heading and climb out and use the whole valley to turn around to get back en-route.

Then I was closing in to the final destination and Pär was already waiting for me. Stefaan managed to land before me, but had some minor problems later onRofl

But he was able to get his wings level again and parked on the shore and Pär was in front of me.

OK, that was it for that Saturday. But according to Pär we will stay in this region for awhile and so guys, come on and join us in SE Alaska. ClappingHeart

I'll try to keep in mind to extend my gear before crawling up solid ground...
But we'll get good practise for that during the next legs Crazy
