Happy New Year to all at Tradewind!
I've started another themed trip, a little shorter this time, and using almost exclusively the Tradewind Helicopters Bell 412EP.
The premise is that TH have been hired by a certain well-known film director (Did I mention that "The Hobbit" has just been released?) to scout locations on NZ's South Island for his upcoming film project. It's a perfect excuse to go low and slow through ORBX's great NZ scenery
The passengers were flown in to a small strip in Marlborough Sound from Wellington in a chartered B222...
...where they were met by our own 412 for the onward trip to the first location, the Farewell Spit lighthouse, which has a small airstrip right next to it.
After an overnight stop (with BBQ so the crew could get acquainted ;) ) we set off early for a run through the Tasman Mountains and down the coast to Cape Foulwind (delightfully named!).
Part 2 to follow soon!
